Horizons of Struggle in Philippine Theology: A Programmatic Synthesis.

This paper was written in the spring semester of 2004. The paper is divided into four horizons for a Philippine ‘theology of struggle’: its relationship with Marxism, its ecumenism, its pedagogy, and its praxis at the level of Basic Human Communities. The first section, on Philippine Theology and Marxism, is scheduled to be published as an article in the forthcoming volume from the University of the Philippines press, Revisiting Marxism in the Philippines.

Archival Materials

Gregorio Aglipay, Pagsisiyam sa Virgen sa Balintawak. Maynila: n.p., 1925.

Originally written in Spanish, this novenary of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente was translated into Tagalog by Juan N. Evangelista. It was published by Isabelo de los Reyes in Manila in 1925. It provides fascinating insight into the profoundly rational and scientific perspective of the Aglipayan church.

Gregorio Aglipay, Novenary of the Motherland. Manila: n.p., 1926.

Translated into Englished and published by Isabelo de los Reyes in Manila a year later, this version of the novenary was cheaply printed and lacks the title pages of the Tagalog translation. No translator is credited.
